Very moving tribute Lew .

I agree with you Lewis. My mother was in London in the Blitz but luckily didn't suffer home loss, it was a terrible time and these drawings are so very good and so very poignant

Civilians, all too often forgotten about it times of conflict. Well done Lew.

A superb tribute Lew . Such difficult time for all not just those in combat areas.

A superb personal insight Lewis.

I remember seeing this Lew, an amazing set of drawings… and a great tribute on this poignant day!

You've outdone yourself on this one! I run out of words for your works.

Wonderful Lewis.

I do remember the War Lew, I was six when it ended in 1945. I remember gas masks and sitting in an air-raid shelter . You've caught it all wonderfully with your amazing insight and skill.

Well done, superb work !

Brilliant Lewis. It’s moving how we overcome adversity.

A fitting tribute to the brave people at home Lewis.

Thanks very much for your response to this oldie.

Incredible how people came through that sort of hardship and loss. I can’t begin to imagine it. Well done for showing this.

A brilliant tribute Lewis.

You've got it spot on, here, Lewis. The East End was known by the Germans as 'the target area'

You’ve excelled yourself here Lewis, wonderful drawing and story telling.

A generation made of sterner stuff Lewis.

Very poignant Lewis. My mum and her brother would tell stories of running out after air raids looking for shrapnel to collect and trade with their friends. My grandmother was (like your mum) the real hero, worrying about her children while her husband was away in the RAF. Luckily there house narrowly missed being hit by a V-2 later in the war.

Very poignant and fitting tribute Lewis. Our parents had to endure a lot during the war.

Incredible story and so well illustrated Lew. Awful stress on those at home. You never know what someone has been through when you walk past them in the street

Brilliant work Lewis and a poignant story as well. My mum used to talk about being strafed by a German fighter on Wandle Park in Croydon and the emerging from safety to dig up bullets from the grass. Yes she also fought the war too.

Such a emotive story, Lewis. Thank you for sharing

Verry poignant Lewis.

Wonderful and very moving tribute Lewis.

Such a personal and poignant piece Lewis. It reminds us how war affects everyone, not just those on the battlefield.

Thank you for sharing Lew. I was not alive then, but my parents were heavily involved, both working in Devonport dockyard, which was heavily bombed. I grew up in the aftermath - bomb sites all the way from my front door to my school, half a mile away.

A page from a personal book I made for my family a few years ago. George's post reminded me of the sacrifices and efforts made on the home front. My Dad was away in the Army, so Mum had to deal with having two homes destroyed during the blitz. Twice she came out of an air-raid shelter, left with nothing but what she carried with her, including a baby (me). I venerate the serviceman, but in my mind I think my Mum fought in the war too.

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
