12.25" x 6.75" Coloured pencil and black ink on Bristol board. This is one of a pair of rollers in the Bird Safari walk-through at London Zoo. Most visitors' attention is taken up with the scarlet ibis and Abdim's stork on the ground and only seem to spot the rollers when they take flight with a flash of vivid blue wings. I thought coloured pencils would suit the softness of their plumage and the black ink, ideal for the dark eye and defining the beak.
