I agree with what you are suggesting Alan , I’m still getting used to having a toned paper and forget that I can incorporate that in the painting . You get so used to covering the white background etc that you automatically do the same , I’ve have been looking at several different artists work mainly one of your favourites Rowland Hilder for inspiration and study, I also look at your own work as it is inspiring .
When I use toned paper Paul, I always think of the paper as part of my palette. Here is a quick poppy sketch in watercolour.
Thanks Denise , I need to get into that mindset as I’m tending to see the paper as the carrying medium.  I will persevere and do  some more small practice pieces, remember to incorporate the tone of the paper in with the painting , all fun and good learning. There is always something new to learn and try out , that’s what makes this hobby so interesting, I say hobby but it’s become more a part of my everyday life and routine.
First one is pen and wash , second pen and pastel.
Saw your second example on the gallery.  Of the two you offer up here, that is my favourite.
Thanks Tony , it’s my favourite as well, I much prefer the pen and pastel work and will probably stay with that .
Not a new one, but a favourite subject of mine… snow scenes. Oast Houses & Barns Under Snow - Pen and wash on watercolour paper.
Yes you do like your snow scenes Alan - and do them beautifully.
